Instapot. EASY DAAL Recipe

This one is a winner….easy Indian Lentil Soup in the Instant Pot!

Ingredients

1/2 Cup Chana Dal or Sambar (Toor) Taal

1.25 Cups Water

1 tbsp Oil (any oil of your choice)

1 tsp Cumin (jeera)

1 tsp Ginger grated or minced

3–4 Cloves Garlic Chopped. *NOTE: (can also use ginger garlic paste mix)

1 Green chilli or jalapeno (optional)

1 Small or Medium Onion -Chopped about 1/2 cup

2 Medium Tomatoes about 1 cup

1/4 Cup Cilantro Leaves for Garnish

1 tbsp Lime Juice

Salt to Taste

Spices

1 tsp Turmeric powder (haaldi)

1 tsp Chilli Powder

1 tsp Coriander Power (dhaniya)

Instructions

Wash and Soak the Chana Dal.

Meanwhile, Heat the Instant Pot in Saute Mode (hot).

Once the Suate mode is hot, Add Oil

Add — Cumin (jeera).Once it splutters, add ginger, garlic and green chilli(if you like it spicy).Saute for 20–30 seconds.

To this, add the chopped onions and cook till they turn translucent, about 3–4 minutes.

Tip in the chopped tomatoes and give it a stir.Cook till mushy, about 5–6 minutes.

Add drained Chana Dal.Add Spices*- turmeric, chilli powder and coriander powder.Season with salt.

Add 1.25 Cups Water.Cancel Saute.

Select PRESSURE COOK on HIGH for 12 minutes with the valve in SEALED position.

Let the pressure drop naturally for 10 minutes, after which quick release the valve. If you have time, let it natural release.

Open the lid, give the dal a good stir.

Add Lime Juice and mix.Check on the seasoning, add salt if needed.

Garnish with Cilantro Leaves and Enjoy :)

Note: This a healthy recipe for a warm comforting soup filled with lean protein! Double the recipe to make more (doubling the time). Pair with some rice or quinoa and you have a well balanced meal!
